Carved Memento Mori Gravestone: Highgate Green Finish

Inspired by a chilling epitaph found on 18th-century New England gravestones, this hauntingly poetic piece reads:

“Remember me as you pass by,
As you are now, so once was I,
As I am now, so you must be,
Prepare for death and follow me.”

This gravestone is hand-carved into XPS foam and painted in what I call "Highgate Green," a custom weathered hue inspired by the moss-softened stones of London’s iconic Highgate Cemetery. The engraved memento mori symbol of a skull, crossbones, and hourglass reminds passersby of time’s swift passage and the certainty of death.

Carved from durable foam material and finished in a slate/dark grey tone with realistic weathering, this piece stands 2 feet tall, 1 foot wide, and 2 inches thick.

Each gravestone is sturdy, waterproof, and built to endure the elements, whether displayed indoors or out, and a reinforced and sturdy slot for attaching to the ground via 1/2" rebar or garden stake. These will not crumble or fly away like store-bought gravestone props.

The moss used in this piece is not real moss, but a custom creation made using my own unique technique of plaster and hand painting to achieve a realistic, moss-like effect. Unlike real moss or faux florals, this method ensures greater durability and weather resistance. Every grave and detail I make is crafted to be strong, long-lasting, and uniquely haunting!
